These models, starting with the DS916+, had an eSATA port on the back and support for more RAM than their previous 4-bay version (like DS412+ or 415+) In 2018, Synology released the DS918+ model which had some visible changes to the previous model, and that look remained until today, with the brand new 4-bay version, the DS923+.
