Auto Repair Volume

Hi,

Is it possible to configure a Synology NAS to automatically begin repairing a volume when a replacement disk is inserted into the NAS?

For reference I have Synology RS820+ DSM 6.2.3-25426

LOL... I thought this thread was on car repair...

But auto-repair upon drive insertion... no. "Hot Spare" is an option, though I would not recommend it for casual use.

If I have physical access I would not use a "hot spare". Why? When a drive fails, I want to determine the cause/severity before I rebuild. More importantly, presuming I have access to a degraded array, I want to ensure that key backups are current, before rebuilding/repairing.

It's possible to have a spare drive in the NAS without having assigned it as a hot spare or allocated to a storage pool. It will be in the NAS being 'not initialised' until you need it for something.

Another issue with "hot spare"... That drive does not sit idle. It spins along with all the others, so it's life clock starts ticking when you place it in spare service.
