Hi,

Two houses next to each other, connected by LAN. Trying to find a cheap way of backing up a DS to a disk on the other house.
I don’t need a full fledged NAS to be the backup target just some kind of a disk on the LAN. I hear you, “that’s NAS, stupid” :)

Any suggestions? Cheap is what I’m looking for. Looked at netgear NAS but I’m not sure.

If the other location is the same LAN then maybe a rpi device with a simple linux installation and an hdd attached to it? rsync via HB would work in that case.

Thank you all. Good suggestions. I have an old Mac mini that might be suitable for this.
And I didn’t know that a 213j can be that cheap :)

The raspberry pi route however is what I might start with. I’ll add this project to the list (growing fast now, and free time is shrinking faster).

What do you guys use to rsync to another computer. I currently have hyper backup to another computer on the lan, using rsync, because synology doesn’t allow any other connection mode for backing up on the network.

I’m using a program called delta copy, and it was a bit of a pita to get working. I don’t even know what I did or how I ended up getting it to work, it was just a matter of messing with the authentications, etc.

Unfortunately, HB does not support QC. It's either, a public IP, DDNS, or LAN IP.

Be aware that rsync is not a backup tool under normal use. It is happy to overwrite good files with bad.
