Just recently my Cloud Sync connection constantly shows its status as “connecting” along with all the sync task (around 10 of them) also showing “connecting”. The sync tasks appear to actually be working though. I’m syncing various folders with OneDrive and have been for a number of years.

I’re restarted the Cloud Sync service and rebooted the DS916+ with no change. The status used to be either Syncing or Idle.
At this stage I’d rather not go through an entire rebuild and resync, anyone have any ideas?

can’t say anything smart here. have had similar problems with one drive myself but a reset of that sync task wold be enough to fix it
 
I finally bit the bullet and deleted the Sync and tried to connect again as it had completely stopped uploading files.
After entering OneDrive username and password I get a Pop-Up saying "Unknown errors occurred, try again later".
I tried several times, even tried a different OneDrive account and reinstalling the Cloud Sync package, but it still will not connect. I've logged a support case, however can anyone else confirm CloudSync currently working with OneDrive?

I tried connecting to Google Drive and it connects immediately.

"Unknown error occurs" ... Maybe you should ask Donald Rumsfeld? :cool:

I've Cloud Sync tasks for Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, and OneDrive*. They all seem to be working.

I just tested dropping a couple of new files direct into OneDrive and they turned up in Cloud Sync and then on my Mac's folder that syncs with the OneDrive folder in Syno Drive.


* I don't use them much, just in case there's a need to share with someone. I've been moving off Dropbox since they instigated the 3 connected clients rule. Hoping that the Syno Drive/Cloud Sync combo can address this and leave the 3 devices for phones/tablets if they really must have Dropbox app.
 
This may be a little conspiracy theorist, could the ISP be blocking this connection at all?
I don’t think so as it does initiate the email/password request then fails after that, however we are on Wireless Internet and in the last 12 months or so had a lot of issues with congestion and interference. The ISP has noted in their troubleshooting that we seem to be “uploading a lot of data” which would be our Surveillance Station Archive Vault video.
Kinda wondering if other customers using the same wireless link complained, if they may block our uploads...
 
Could be the “fair use“ policy kicking in to block those ports because the robots noticed that you‘re constantly uploading. But usually they don’t care much about uploads! But who knows. Just guessing.
Maybe you can call and ask.

If I’m suspecting that, and it’s really important. I’ll try to move the NAS to another location, preferably with a different provider (a friend’s home) to test. Quite a hassle though.
 
Synology has requested some logs, pending the outcome of that, I’ll contact the ISP if necessar.
 
I sussed out why it wasn't working!
Synology got back to me and said they could see a network timeout and got me to check DNS, Firewall, IPV6 settings etc in the NAS all which were ok.

The strange thing with my issue is that when I first try to make the connection to OneDrive I do actually get asked for my email address, then password, then get a message that it's going to redirect to xxxx.myds.me:5001 and it was after that it failed.

I checked the firewall in my UniFi USG3 router and it had actually triggered a threat prevention to the Microsoft IP address from the NAS IP address and auto blocked / blacklisted it.

Once I removed all those rules from WAN IN / WAN OUT, OneDrive could connect and sync ok.

It was strange that the "connecting" issue went on for a few weeks where it still actually appeared to be syncing files, before it finally ceased to work at all a couple of days ago.

Anyway, hopefully once it's run through comparing all my files, it will return to it's normal Idle/Sync status. I was half way through writing an email to my ISP blaming them when I found this :)

So why did your firewall decide all of a sudden that this is a threat while –from the gist of what you said– it was ok with it before?!

I have no idea, perhaps Ubiquiti updated their threat detection algorithm and this got caught as a false positive. I know my Denon AV receiver has thrown up an alert before as suspicious activity.

I’m wondering if my “connecting” problem was because the firewall rule was blocking some sort of heartbeat, but the actual upload is handled on a different port or something. That doesn’t explain why it was still working that way for a number of weeks before stopping altogether though. So, 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
 
Does the firewall automatically update some threat libraries etc?

I too had my Denon AVR's automated software update schedule blocked by Safe Access* and had to add the URL to the exceptions list.

*The bit in Safe Access is actually called Network Protection and utilises a couple of databases to determine the threat of a particular connection request: Google Safe Browsing and their 'threat intelligence' database. If your firewall uses similar sources to determine the safeness (is that a word?) of a request then it might explain why you're getting these issues ... the accuracy is determined by the quality of the assessment information held in the databases.

That could well be the reason why this has started to happen. Without 'advanced' settings to modify the policies to white/black list to meet your needs then you're at the whim of whoever/whatever is categorising the data.
I can also edit the Threat Management lists (whit/black) in the router which I have now done
