Correct, but your new unit has to be on the same DSM version or higer

Tx. For as possible for this NAS, the DSM was updated to the latest version. I have ordered a ds419slim and i will let you know the result.

I couldn’t help but notice that you are trying to address Synology by your “@Synology” post.
Please note that no one here is affiliated with Synology. We’re all like you, users of Synology solutions.
I' m sorry but this was an earlier copy of a twitter message. I hoped Synology would react by them selves, but for a big brand they give poor support for their expensive products. I'm thankfull for this community, they gave me the info i should expect from @synology by twitter.
So for you all, big THANK YOU

Continuing my post (maybe to help other unexperienced ones like me).
The DS419slim is fed with my old 4x1Tb Samsung Momentus HD's and connected to my network. After booting the NAS he is first downloading and installing the latest DSM. Meanwhile the NAS keeps beeping (later i see that 2 hd' are marked as risky).
After following the web interface i can enter my old credentials and after a while i can reach the NAS and YES everything is still there and reachable. First thing i did was copying all the data to another NAS because of the risky drives. I did this with Explorer but isn't there a solution to copy directly from 1 NAS to another?
So far great tx for your advice.

Next problem, replacing the drives. I bought 4 new Seagate barracuda 1Tb hd's. Can i replace them 1 by one (not at once i understand) starting with 1 of the risky hd?
And how long before the next one so the RAID 5 can be rebuild?
Tx in advance

If the other NAS supports rsync or is Synology you can look to use Hyper Backup from the DS419slim. Once you know your data is safe then you can look to replacing the old disks.

You should be able to replace disks one by one. It'll take some time to complete because it will be rebuilding the RAID each time you replace a disk.

I think you need to look at the section regarding Degraded Storage Pools: DiskStation Manager - Knowledge Base | Synology Inc.
