Which option will be better ? Pro and Cons?
Option 1: DS3617 connect to 2 expansion DX1215.

Option 2: 3 DS2419

Option 3: 2 DS2419 1 expansion DX2415.

All 3 options could be used 36 HDD.

Well, only in one case can you get 36 drives considering that 2419 supports only one expansion vs 3617.

Comparing the two, 3617 is more powerful, more room to grows (HW vise) but they both have also an option for PCI expansion. Apart from the raw power, 3617 will consume more power than 2419 but not that much if that is something that is important.

If you are choosing between the two I would go for the x17 model even though it is older, but 2419 will give you more OS support in the long run. 2419 is not a successor for 3617 considering they are not in the same group, but it is a question when a new DS 12 bay unit will arrive.

Atm there is only one x21xs model that has arrived and that's DS1621xs+ but, again, fewer bays. The rest of the units are RS1221+ and RS2421+ that have no official HW specs knows and they are rack based on top of this.

So again, if you need it now, and you need 36bays, 3617. If you can wait and would be satisfied with fewer bays, 2419, or maybe some of the RS models like RS3618xs.

So far the options all add up to being able to hold a maximum of 36 disks. So that’s a tie:all are as good as each other.

But what’re your requirements? How to assess whether a single NAS is better than having two or three, or if two is more suitable than one, or three adds to much management effort?

There're are some differences between the two NAS in what they support too. Check it out here and select to highlight differences.
