Hi all,

A few weeks ago I noticed while working on my BitWardenRS installation that something was wrong with the time set on the DSM UI.
Not sure since when it started to be out of sync but even though I have the timezone set to the right location it shows 1h less than it actually is (see below).

I also figured out that the in SSH it was giving the wrong time even though the timezone seemed to be correctly configured in /etc/TZ echo $TZ was returning a blank line:
Code:
# more TZ
CET-1CEST,M3.5.0,M10.5.0/3
# echo $TZ

# date
Tue Jan 21 19:21:37 UTC 2020

So based on some readings in other forums I decided to manually set the TZ var which allowed me to now show the right time:
Code:
# export TZ="CET-1CEST,M3.5.0,M10.5.0/3"
# date
Tue Jan 21 20:21:45 CET 2020

Then I went back into the UI and the time was still out of sync there.
Cheked the logs and the time was also out of sync.
If I try in the UI to manually resync the time with the ntp, the TZ variable goes back to a blank line.

One more thing I noticed is that my my BitWardenRS has the right time since I have set TZ variable manually to "Europe/paris" but the logs show that my NAS and the container are out of sync :

Anyone has already encountered this issue and got it resolved ?

Thanks :)

I had a similar problem with the mail log sometime ago and later it was fixed with the next update. It seems I was the only one who had that problem. Synology support said we don’t know anything about anything, give us remote access to check.
I said no.

So it could be the alignment of the stars during your DSM installation that caused all this. Or maybe you installed DSM during a full moon (try not to do that next time).

Try the old “turn it off and on again” and see (before the next full moon of course).

Well, that's something I did last Sunday when I decided I was going to dust the NAS a little bit since it was running for 1 1/2 year near the ground under my desk (on a 30 cm box) and I decided also to relocate it on the desk :D .

Not sure if it was the full moon but it's still out of sync.
And also not quite sure but if I remember right, there was a DSM update not that long ago and didn't solve the issue.

I think we need exorcists to help us with issues on Synology boxes since they look like they're possessed 😄
they said we don’t know anything about anything
Everyone @Synology support center is called Jon Snow ? 🙄

Think I'll wait and see if by some miracle everything aligns by itself (which I doubt) since it doesn't seem to cause any issue for now. I'm just worried about the 2FA which relies on time to get the right token.

They’ll most likely ask for remote access :p

Don’t hold your breath. Let‘s see what will be fixed by DSM 7 (and what will be ruined by new bugs). It’s the software game.

My point is that it’s all random.
Currently I have this on all my DiskStations.

I raised a ticket and they said we don’t know anything about anything. Give us remote access. I said no.
I think your NAS has been infected with the 'Hey Jude' malware 🥁

Thank you! I'll be here all week. Tip your waiter. :ROFLMAO:

This is a real concern. I just checked my BW codes against my phone app. Fortunately, they match ☺
My concern with 2FA on SRM login was this too.

Working on the assumption that it's less likely that my NAS will be down when rebooting the RT router I have enabled NTP on DSM. The DSM gets it's time from Internet NTP and this then served to SRM. The hope being that the time for 2FA will be consistent during any Internet outage or after reboot when Internet is offline.

I just checked and they also match :)
Also checked again last night if magic happened on the time visible in the UI but nope ... even the lunar new year hasn't changed that 😁
