Hello
I've spent 2 weeks trying to configure external access for my NAS without success. Neither WebDav, nor FTP nor VPN works from my office network to the NAS.

Inside my home network everything works, WebDav, FTP, VPN. However my goal would be to map a network drive on my computer in the office, open a file, edit it and save it; I don't want to do the download and upload process using quickconnect.

Using a WebDav drive mapping tool, like RaiDrive, I'm able to do the drive mapping, but only inside my home network. (using VPN or without it, RaiDrive works using the DDNS)

The NAS is behind a double NAT, although I have false-root access to my router I can't change the "Port Restricted Cone NAT" that is configured. I'm able to update port forward option on the house-router, but it seems port forwarding configuration needs to be updated in the ISP router too. I talked with the ISP, telling me that at this moment (sounds like never) they can't give me a public IP address or update the port forward configuration on the routers.

I ran out of ideas,

Appreciate any help,
Thank you

Well this is the source of your problem than. Unless you can get rid of that hurdle, using QuickConnect is the only option you have left at the moment..

(This is one of the reasons why i HATE using modems/routers provided by ISP's....)

This assumes it's possible to avoid using the ISP's device or that it can be used in bridge/modem mode. And that there's an alternative ISP that does permit it.

l've read that changing the home-router to bridge mode and using another router as a "home-router" it might work....

Do you know, if this change will affect the others 2 services that the home-router is doing at this moment, 1) telephone and 2) tv service.

Thank you

In most cases it will. If you bridge it that take might fall on your router considering that isp device becomes a simple “modem”.

If you’re confident in the security features of your second router and the ISP router supports it: you could use the ISP router’s DMZ feature to send all inbound connections (except phone and TV) to the second router.

The ISP router will still handle connections to ports that it knows about as it does now, but all other port connections should be forwarded to the second router and you do your own port forwarding to the NAS here.

I have that scenario ready in case my new upcoming fiber provider will not offer a bridge.

If I couldn't set my ISP modem/router in bridge mode: I'd rather order a managed switch, hook it up directly to the fiber MTU, find out on which VLAN's the data, TV and telephone connections is sitting, split each VLAN into a seperate port in the switch and then hook up my own router on that port with the data VLAN. :p
