So, a long time ago I bought a 1813+ to replace kluged together windows file servers since we mostly moved to the fruity side of the force. Yes, MacBooks, ithings, macs and a windows storage required too much maintenance.
I kept one windows box running for a couple of years to keep copies of the files on the disk server.
Then I bought a second 1813+ to replace the windows box.
All was well until recently when the newer unit hung. All disk lights went out though the status and power were on solid green & blue respectively.
I restarted it and logged in and while looking at logs, it hung again. So, powered it off, pulled all the disks and then inserted a spare drive and restarted it. Installed DSM, created a volume. And it hung again.
So, opened a ticket with tech support. They had me run memory tests and download the dump file for them. It failed to complete the memory tests. First time it hung a 99.8%. Other times it seemed to complete but the restart failed. I did try a different disk just in case but no happiness.
I have been messaging with tech support (I opened a ticket) for 2 weeks (hence the new unit so I can get the files back).
It failed the memory test so I replaced the memory but that failed too. I am suspecting power supply issues since it seemed to run until there was disk activity. But, I can’t be sure.
The last two reply’s I made to tech support asked for help getting it repaired but it seems they are dodging the question. I don’t see anything on their web site about repairs. An equivalent replacement (ds1819+) is nearly a thousand bucks. I just want my old unit working.
Any suggestions?
