How to get a DS1813+ repaired?

So, a long time ago I bought a 1813+ to replace kluged together windows file servers since we mostly moved to the fruity side of the force. Yes, MacBooks, ithings, macs and a windows storage required too much maintenance.

I kept one windows box running for a couple of years to keep copies of the files on the disk server.

Then I bought a second 1813+ to replace the windows box.

All was well until recently when the newer unit hung. All disk lights went out though the status and power were on solid green & blue respectively.

I restarted it and logged in and while looking at logs, it hung again. So, powered it off, pulled all the disks and then inserted a spare drive and restarted it. Installed DSM, created a volume. And it hung again.

So, opened a ticket with tech support. They had me run memory tests and download the dump file for them. It failed to complete the memory tests. First time it hung a 99.8%. Other times it seemed to complete but the restart failed. I did try a different disk just in case but no happiness.

I have been messaging with tech support (I opened a ticket) for 2 weeks (hence the new unit so I can get the files back).

It failed the memory test so I replaced the memory but that failed too. I am suspecting power supply issues since it seemed to run until there was disk activity. But, I can’t be sure.

The last two reply’s I made to tech support asked for help getting it repaired but it seems they are dodging the question. I don’t see anything on their web site about repairs. An equivalent replacement (ds1819+) is nearly a thousand bucks. I just want my old unit working.

Any suggestions?

I got a reply this morning that says they don’t offer repair services!

Yikes! Throw away mentality. It was $750 new and $975 for a replacement.

Very disappointed.

There'a videos on YouTube showing how to hook-up a PC PSU. You could try that and whilst you are in there blow out any dust and replace the motherboard battery.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have several PC power supplies kicking around.
I have had the motherboard out a few times to swap memory modules but did not look at the battery. Do you, by any chance, know what battery it uses?

I did clean out all dust before starting this whole adventure.

You can use one of these. But can't remember if you have the 2.54mm spacing on the pins, or the 1.27mm...
