Hi,

I hope this is the most appropriate place given my question, apologies if not.

I am re-building my entire server system and have two servers that are dedicated to media storage (one for original files and one which runs Plex). Some of the files on the Plex NAS are copies of the originals (e.g. music FLAC files) and some are converted digital files (e.g. .m4v video files).

What I want to be able to do is "synchronise" from Server 1 to Server 2 for some files (specifically the music FLAC ones). I know I can use Cloud Station Sync (or the new Drive Server application) but I wondered whether using Hyperbackup with the option of "Local Folder & USB (single-version)" would essentially do the same job. The files are not updated constantly, generally just when new files are added so I could just get Hyperbackup to run every night rather than having the sync applications running and checking for changes all the time. Everything is all backed up separately onto other severs and external drives anyway so this is just a way of easily keeping a duplicated set of some folders on Server 2 which Plex will then use as it's libraries

I also have some 3rd party software (AllwaySync) but I'd rather just use the Synology applications if possible. As far as I can tell using Hyperbackup in the way described above is going to have the same outcome albeit the 'synchronisation' will only place in line with my scheduled tasks, which is fine.

Could someone confirm that my understanding is correct and that I am not creating any likely issues for myself?

Many thanks (y)

Andrew

The '(single-version)' task types make a duplicate folder/file structure on the destination, so you are right in that you could use Hyper Backup between the two NAS. However, you'll have to use the 'rsync copy (single-version)' server task to backup between the two NAS not 'Local folder & USB...', which is for source/destination on the same NAS.

I use rsync single-version to keep a clone of the DS218+ /home to a backup shared folder on DS215j.

Best is to test using a small sacrificial folder of media to see how it performs.

I suppose 'Local Folder' was kind of a giveaway, but for some reason I had made the assumption local meant within my network vs all the other 'external' cloud based options available.

Thanks, I'll do some further testing (y)

So this is strictly personal type stuff, no USG, HIPPA, NatSec, etc., correct?
