For me also Firefox all the way. Except for sites that somehow malfunction because of the dozen of security and blocking plugins I use, then I'll use my very "clean" Safari browser.

Too bad Synology only supports privacy invading Chrome though. I really like the Note Station plugin but it's only available for Chrome.

I don't know Bookstacks, but I specifically started using Synology devices to get rid of all the different online services I used. It replaces my webhost, mail host, Dropbox, Netflix, Spotify, Google Calendar and Address Book and more. Note Station replaced Evernote for me. So I'll just stick to using it without handy plugins. Starting to use another 3rd party app feels kind of counter-intuitive now that I moved literally everything to Synology. :)

[Edit]

I see Bookstack is a PHP package. Starting to sound more interesting. Going to install a test version on my NAS as soon as I get home! Thanks for mentioning it.

I agree with this, but as you edited, later on, this is something that is open source and self-hosted. Also, with docker running platforms, I can move bare metal appliances as much as I want and I'm still not locked in with a specific app/"brand".

So yes, Docker all the way, and use DSM to a minimum, that's my current mind set atm.

Maybe I should first look into Docker a bit deeper then, because I absolutely do not like it! But I am the first to admit that is 100% because I totally don't understand it and couldn't get anything to work on it. Seeing its popularity it MUST be good, it's just my lack of understanding that makes it unpopular with me. :)

The only thing I ever used with Docker was DockerDSM before Synolgy killed that. I liked it better than VirtualDSM because it shared resources with the host rather that reserving resources you might never use.

Just open a topic on the matter (or app that you wanna run) and we will make it run :D.

I agree. But, a logical move from Synology regarding their DEV management for both platforms.

Yeah, even the Note Station app from Synology tried to contact Google API junk. And for what reason? Because I have blocked all outgoing connections except for to my NAS and it is working just fine.

I’ve tried Note Station too for a while but abandoned it. I’ve managed to install bookstacks and I’m trying it.

I think Docker is Amazing and opens up many possibilities that come from open source development. It’s worth investing time in learning it (for me). I’m just surprised that Synology decided to stop developing/supporting DDSM. Isn’t that going backwards!

Isn’t that going backward!
Nope. For them, they are going forward just in the form of VMM support for DSM. This way they can focus all efforts for multi-tenant DSM scenarios only via VMM side and not Docker as well. Also, with DSM running via Docker, you would have to update that DDSM instance as soon as your would the host DSM. With VDSM this is not the case. So in DDSM they would have to be sure to get it out the door as soon as DSM bare-metal version is ready. With VDSM they don't have to.

Money and development not to mention testing. Looks like testing and developing for one "hypervisor" is enough.

Even though this is completly unrelated to the original post.
Maintaing a version of DSM for a VM is much easier than maintaining a DSM version for a customized docker engine . For DDSM, they need to maintain their customization of the docker engine AND ddsm itself.
