Something in my firewall settings blocks Plex from a direct connection. My settings are pretty basic..

1. allow LAN IP range
2. allow VPN IP range
3. allow USA (all)

and deny all else... When active I get no connection and when disabled I can directly connect.

I'm stymied. Ideas? Thanks.

guessing you have port forward sorted as well?

Yep. All works well except when the firewall is active.

I did find this snippet ...
"If you have any restrictions set in the DSM firewall or your router’s firewall, then make sure they allow ALL regions and not one specific country. Plex needs to communicate with many servers all around the globe."

So I added a rule to exempt the Plex port from "deny all" regional constraints, and the external connection appears "direct" now, vs. "indirect". I've never run across this requirement before. You?
