I have a had a backup problem which I would like some advice with.

I have 2 Synology NAS, a Main and a Backup. I decided to use RSYNC to perform a nightly backup from one to the other and it has been working fine for a few weeks. I had a few problems getting RSYNC setup and ended up mounting remote folders on the Main device connecting to the Backup device. The Backup device powers on at 2am and the Main device runs a scheduled task, a script the runs the RYSNC command. For some reason last night the Backup device did not power on and the RSYNC command created a local folder to put the RSYNC files into. When I got up this morning I had lots of low disk space warnings, it took a while to figure out what had happened - it all looked fine as the folders had the correct names they were just local instead of remote!

Any ideas how I can stop this from happening in the future, I have stopped the pwer schedule on the Backup device in the meantime so it runs 24/7

Is there anyway in the script to check that either the remote connectioon is up or the Backup device is running?

Thanks

Why not use Hyper Backup (single file option) for your rsync task? I use it this way for years and it’s working fine. On top of this, if the destination nas will not respond the task will fail with an error and just wait for the next scheduled time to try again.
