Has anyone gotten any storage attached to the RT6600ax that works at faster than USB 2 speeds? I thought it was supposed to have a USB 3.1 GEN 2 10gbps port? I can't seem to make it go faster than USB 2 speeds.

So first I tried the drives plugged straight into the RT6600ax USB port:
The drives are:
Amazon product ASIN B07XL6QYMVAmazon product ASIN B08BBTTYP5
These drives mount up no problem. You can install threat prevention etc. with no problems. However, performance is lame.

They should read/write around 1000MB/s or 400MB/s, but I could only get the drives to read/write files at around 85MB/second (by copying/pasting some large files I transferred on to the drives).

So I decided to try some HUBs to see if they would still work (because at some point I would like to also use a second ISP with the router and still have Threat Prevention/storage).
The HUBs I tried are:
Amazon product ASIN B07XHL5399Amazon product ASIN B09J495LYSAmazon product ASIN B00TPMEOYM
All 3 of them worked, and all the drives still mounted. The speed was still limited to the 85MB/second USB 2 speeds. However, I did notice in ControlPanel>Device that in addition ot listing the drives I had plugged in, and now showing the HUB, it would show a HUB 3.x AND a HUB 2.0. So clearly the Synology router seems to be negotiating DOWN to a USB 2.0 hub.

So that's where I am. There seems to no way to go faster than USB2 speeds. Has anyone gotten faster performance? If so how? Maybe some blessed storage device and/or hubs?

Thanks for any help!

Wifi 2.4 active?
The theoretical speed of USB 2.0 is 53MB/s so if you are getting more than that then it does work on some USB 3 standards.

Youre right. But wow is that pathetic throughput! That's only about 680Mbps throughput when we should be getting 10Gbps theoretical throughput and the devices are rated (and I have tested, they do get near the 1000MB/sec and 400MB/sec read/write when connected to a laptop).

My test for throughput is I coped a folder full of 400MB videos, about 4.5GB of it, and just copy/paste that folder through the FileStation app.

There is something killing performance. I get it might not be as fast as a full desktop or laptop, but you would think it would be at least half or even quarter the speed. This is like only 8.5% of the speed. What is interesting is both devices have very different top speeds, but both seem to be limited to the same top speed throughput. I wonder what's going on here.

Using SRM 1.31(v7), and an Samsung 870Evo SATA SSD in a cheap enclosure from Amazon, I can achieve 89MBps transfer speeds to/from the 6600AX

Just to clarify the USB 3.1 Gen 1 port is rated at 5Gbps NOT 10 Gbps https://global.download.synology.co...600ax/enu/Synology_RT6600ax_Datasheet_enu.pdf

USB 2 is rated at 480Mbps
USB 3.1 Gen1 at 5Gbps both are theoretical maximum speeds. actual speeds will depend on network traffic to/from router, The router’s CPU overhead (Remember it only has a 1.8 GHz, 4 core ARM CPU that is also managing the routing, in NAS terms this would be an entry level model and the CPU wouldn’t have to be also executing routing, threat protection, firewall, DNS server etc duties. And it only has 1GB of RAM (So not much to use as a buffer).
Base CPU load is around 21% and base RAM usage 67% which obviously spikes when transferring large amounts of data.
