Synology 1815+
Hi, I've got a question regarding Shared Folder Sync. I have 2 identical Synology DS1819+ systems running btrfs. My intent is to backup the first unit's files (Wally) to the second (Wally2). The second unit was originally populated as a shared folder sync from the first. Each NAS now has mountable volumes (shared folders, I guess) called Wally.

When I manually kick off a Shared Folder Sync using Sync Now, File Station shows that the 2nd unit renames its

shared folder Wally to Wally_1 and proceeds to create a new shared folder from scratch called Wally. This isn't what I want. I just want the rsync to make the target Wally identical to the source Wally.

Is there something that I'm missing here? Do I misunderstand how Shared Folder Sync works?

Thanks!

If the purpose of you using rsync to solely backup, why don't you use the rsync backup function in the HyperBackup package? In the backup tasks you can select is as 'single version' so it fully naticely browsable on the backup NAS.

HyperBackup rsync single version doesn't seem to be doing what I want. It seems to have created a new folder called Wally inside the existing shared folder called Wally. Inside that, it created a database file and another directory called Wally, and it's recopying the entire source shared folder into that.

My goal is to make the existing folder on the destination exactly like the source folder. I previously had accomplished this sync going from a Synology to a Drobo using command line rsync on my desktop.

why not Snapshot Replication ?

many benefits

two NASes with BTRFS, perfect scenario for Snapshot Replication

Hi kiriak. I need an exact duplication so that I can switch over quickly in the event of a catastrophic Synology failure (as happened with my DS1815+).

Hi SkipWhiffle,
snapshot replication is an exact duplication, including file history at the desired time depth
and because you asked for backup, I think this is the best method for backup between two BTRFS systems
if uptime is the first priority, then you should seek for other solutions (a cluster maybe ? )
