Hey there, I'm wanting to setup an NVR but the information on Synologys website is a bit confusing.

I'm considering using my old RS815+ for Surveillance Station/NVR paired with the VisualStation VS960HD. The NAS doesn't have HDMI output - thats where the VisualStation comes in.

Does anyone know if that'll work or am I overcomplicating it?

NaAS is from fundamental point of view Network attached storage. Now it is also servers base or Virtual machine base.
It’s answer why there isn’t HDMI.
But as I know, you can connect directly from the Visual staion to Surveillance station in any Syno NAS.

Look here - page no.5 from user guide:
In the Surveillance Station (note - in Visual station environment) application, you can sign in to any Surveillance Station account on a Synology NAS/NVR product to operate the functions of Surveillance Station based on the privilege granted to the account.
by IP or by QuickConnect, then you don’t need HDMI

Hey jeyare (again). I was thinking the HDMI was necessary to get into my distributed A/V system. That way I can view cameras from any TV in the house.

It sounds like the RS815+ and the VisualStation combo would work well.

There are just 2 HDMI outputs, no inputs
The Visual station seems to be remote HDMI Dashboard for NAS Survielance station
Yah, sounds like thats what I need to get HDMI output on a NAS that doesnt have that feature.
