Hi,

I just got my Synology MR2200 to extend my network.

The problem is that I can't get through the system update. It always fails.

So, the blue light is blinking, I add the Wi-Fi point through SRM. And this is what happens next:

Then I clicked on Try again button, but no luck.

Why it won't update automatically?

Any help appreciated on how to advance from this point.

Ok, I can connect with devices to that mesh router, but it still says:

In SRM update I get this:

My RT2600 is up to date, just my new MR220 isn't. When I try to update manually only the MR2200, I get this:

I'm not sure if I can update the RT2600 too. It is already running the latest version.

Two options:
  1. Try continuing with the manual update for both devices (take a config. backup of the RT2600ac in case of emergency!)
  2. Remove the MR2200ac from the mesh and set up as a standalone router: update to the same SRM as the RT2600ac. Then restart the process of adding it as a mesh AP.

In RT2600ac's WiFi Access you remove the MR2200ac from the mesh: highlight the MR2200ac in the Wi-Fi Point list and I think it's Manage -> Delete & Reset. Then restart setting it up as a router and update SRM ... you may as well collect your free VPN Plus licences while you're at it :)

I did something very similar recently so I could get 19 free VPN Plus licences for my MR2200ac, in case in the future I wanted to run it as a separate router. Can't use them when in AP mode but free is free!

Yes, but I guess I need to add the cable to WAN port, right?

If I go to my DS Router app I can see that MR2200 updated to the latest version already...

👍

If it is saying the the version is now the same on both devices then it should be possible to add the MR2200ac as a mesh AP.

If you still want to do a temporary setup as a router so you can login and check for sure etc. [get licences] then what I did was to string the devices together like this:

ISP router <-> [WAN] RT2600ac [LAN] <-> [WAN] MR2200ac [LAN] <-> MacBook Air (using ethernet dongle)

The MR2200ac using a DHCP assign WAN IP from the RT2600ac ... this is just to get quick 'client' access to the Internet. The MacBook gets its IP from the MR2200ac's DHCP server. Use the MacBook to work on the MR2200ac.

Actually, my devices can connect to MR2200 with no problem. It works like it should, just having that warning, so can't use some functionalities.

I've opened a ticket so I will wait what they have to say.

Thanks!
