Looks like Ubnt also changed their forum style; a lot of unhappy folks over there as well. Seems like post are now through tags as opposed to discussion topics. Are all forums heading this way? I don’t understand why change something that works

Thx for my decision to move 2M ago to Unify platform (router, switch, APs) I have no issues in my also in company network, then I have no idea about U-community.
SynoMan/Rusty community is enough for me :) , of course with all of you gents! Sometime we need limited our digital life, because we lose the real.

At least they acknowledged the new forum as a failure...

I have a full UniFi setup at home. I stumbled into the new community the day it went live and wondered what in the world had happened. My first thought was they’d f$#ked it just like Synology did. At least they have the balls to own up to the mistake. Time will tell just how much they manage to fix it.

What I don’t understand is, why?? Why mess with a perfectly functional platform and turn it into a steaming pile of 💩 ?

It costs momey to do it, and, you alienate your entire customer base and piss off the very people you use as a resource to help sell and support products.

It looks like Synology are using their own forum software.

It's not the first time they've made mistakes with writing that.

I've never known them admit to them though.... pride before a fall and all.

I can answer why.
You can see anywhere around you:
  • people aren’t rational.
  • there are tons of “non-experienced” people who do their business based on “I think”, but they don’t listen
  • internal development (UBQT CEO confirmed). It is not about how many JS developers I can bring, or what perfect framework is it. It is up to - if I have an idea - is it in line of my customers expectations?
  • if it’s out of the basic expectation, how I can manage it?
  • .... then the enabler of the “do it better” is based on listening, then thinking.
They have a feedback. It will take a time and cost when they repair the current job.

But people do same job in still same way - again and again. An example- how many people bought NAS, then they are unsatisfied, then ask for a help, the just start an understanding about the possibilities of the NAS. This is the real life.

I don't care. Bought a bunch of POE access points from them. Hooked them up to a Cisco POE switch. None of them worked. Turned out they were originally designed to only work with their POE switches. They then changed the design to - gasp - meet industry standards. However they didn't change the model number or version number. So I ordered WAPs that said they met spec, but they were old ones that didn't.

Send them all back and purged Ubiquity from any future vendor lists.

there is lot of reasons why it doesn't work:
1. twisted-pair cable (distance, shield/unshield, Cat,...)
2. switch PoE standards support (802.3xx) vs AP standards requirements
3. switch level. Cisco brand isn't every-time quality guarantee, my cause - why I left Cisco (SME range) to Ubiquiti Unifi
4. switch PoE setup for the particular port (AP with PoE)

Finally:
it is not black or white world, each of them (Cisco/U) have interesting added value. Then, my recommendation (as I wrote many times) is better spend few hours with research, check, then make a purchase decision. Otherwise people get unsatisfied experiences.

A recommendation:
- for network, don't mix router/switch/AP environment, then you can get maximum stability, manageability and performance from them

It is black and white. The problem resided with the Ubiquity devices. Not with the switches (which work with multiple POE devices from several manufacturers).

w/o specific scenario description it is just shoot into dark. Maybe share of exact switch and AP models can better understand your experience - or help others (base of this forum).

For all, who are thinking about Ubiquity APs purchase, you can find here short & clear guide (also PoE requirements). Link
PoE works, but you have to chose right model for your LAN architecture limitations.

Yeah, I’ve got 4 x UniFi AC AP’s at home (a NanoHD, LR, Lite and In-Wall) and they have all been flawless. I ran the first few on the included PoE injectors but have since added a UniFi router (USG3) and 16 port PoE Unifi switch. Run the UniFi controller in Docker on the NAS and a couple of HikVision cameras on seperate VLAN’s on Surveillance Station. It’s a great little setup.

The devices were the AP AC LR access points. Tried with the following switches - Cisco 3750, Cisco 3850, Cisco 2960, Adtran 1531P. All of which power 803.2af devices and were proven to work (powered Yealink phones, Polycom phones, and several other 803.2af devices). Connections were tested in both static and auto modes.

The problem is Ubiquity added 803.2af capability mid run of the product. They changed the advertised specs yet didn't change the model number. When you ordered the APs there was no way to know if they would work or not.
This is a known issue. It is a shot in the dark - when you buy Ubiquity will the product meet the advertised spec? Maybe, maybe not. Suppose you bought a Synology NAS and their compatibility sheet said the drives you also bought were compatible. After getting it and putting everything together how would you feel if the drives weren't compatible after burning time testing what should work from the start? And now you have to go through the return process burning more time?

Ubiquity is on our do not buy list. We cannot trust them to ship product that meets the specs they say they do.

I think it's based on a little too much weed smoking.
