I bought a ds1621+ from new in June 2021. It's been working fine.

I'm investigating upgrading the ram, and I've discovered that it does
not have the official synology 4 GB DDR4 ECC SODIMM (D4ES01-4G) as
I expected, but an 8GB part, dmidecode shows:

(I dont get any ram warnings at startup)

Now I might be going mad, and upgraded the ram, and then forgot I
did, but I dont thinks so.

Did the ds1621+ ever ship with this ram from new?

and does this invalidate my warranty? (in the UK)
