I just got a DS920+ a couple days ago. For home I am deciding between these two solutions but I am not sure which one is better to use? I simply want to backup my computers (Windows) to my 920+ and also have the ability for bare metal restores if needed.

I generally see Veeam as being the best when it comes to backup software so I am looking at the two free products they offer and I don't know which one is for me.

Backup and Replication comes as a 6GB ISO download that looks like I need to install it on a dedicated server/VM or something while the Agent download is simply just a program that I install on all my computers.

I looked a bit on Google and they seem pretty similar to me.

Veeam Agent Windows is spectacular. Fast backups and restores. If you need to go beyond Windows, the community edition is worthy of review.

You might also find Macrium Reflect (Free) useful on Win machines.

I tried ABB. Very frustrating experience. Slow backups and restores that failed twice (once should have been my cut-off). Plus community support is quite limited in contrast with Veeam and MR. I uninstalled ABB. Never again.

Funny you mention that, I went to test the bare metal restore and you have to go through a bunch of separate steps via a PDF to just get the ISO. With Veeam Agent (free version mind you) it was a single button and I had an ISO in like 30 seconds. I think ABB might have its place for simple file level restores but something like entire device backups I will look to Veeam Agent Free or Macrium Reflect Free. I may keep ABB depending on storage space just for those simple file level restores, not sure yet since I'm still in the testing phase
