Hi,

I need a weather station that runs on a raspberry pi or on the DS. I want to monitor a greenhouse, need (at least) temperature, humidity inside and temperature, humidity, wind speed, rain and sun/cloud ratio, outside. With history (important to correlate and understand the effects on produce).
No harm if more info is provided. Something like this perhaps. Or the picture at the end of the post (scroll all the way down) with history. This one looks amazing.

Appreciate saving me the time to search for the software/hardware (prefer wired not wireless, we want to keep the greenhouse WiFi radiation free) if you have any experience. I need something that can be installed easily without all the coding (don't have the time or patience for it) :(

Thanks in advance :)

I run Weewx on a Raspberry Pi. It takes data via USB from an Oregon Scientific WMR89 weather station. I’ve added the Neowx skin. Pretty much all the hard work was done by others.

The Pi the is accessible via WiFi, for neatness, but could be Ethernet.

Probably nothing to stop you running natively on DSM or build a docker container.

Since the WMR89 software was PC only and somewhat clunky, I wrote some Perl to take its exported data and generate reports in html. I’ve since modified this to use weewx’s sqlite database every 15 minutes to automate the process and generate the historical reports as they occur. The iMac runs some CCC tasks that take data and updates Web Station.

Mine isn't as wow-y as the web interface you showed. This is the summary page I create...

And then longer report, this is the 7 days one.

It's just struck me that this is a bit odd. Do you have a Faraday cage around the greenhouse to stop incoming radiation?

My weather station uses wireless sensors that are battery powered (2xAA or 2xAAA) which I'd rather expose to that environment than the whole station or R-Pi. I've not investigated other devices to see if they are wired between sensors and base.

Thank you for sharing this. Looks nice. You're certainly very resourceful and multitalented, Mr. @fredbert :)
I don't know if I can do all this! I’ll look into the hardware you mentioned and see where can I go from there.

No need for such extreme measures :)

This project is in a remote location, we hardly get any GSM signal let alone WiFi. The greenhouse design makes it about 70% underground too.
Any radiation will almost certainly be generated by us. Not accounting for any coming from aliens above. But I think they gave up on us a long time ago.

Two aliens hovering above and scanning Earth in their spaceship, the first one asks the 2nd, any sign of intelligent life? The 2nd says no, “they are pointing their weapons at each other!”

They moved on.

I’m looking at this page. So many choices! The greenhouse is more of a commercial project rather than personal. if you were to choose the hardware again (taking the commercial aspect into consideration), what would you go for?

I’m sure that there are commercial solutions out there, but I don’t know if they’ll adapt to our needs. I mean they might be too locked with their own monitoring hardware consoles and closed communication circuits for instance.

Thanks for sharing, @fredbert. This is very helpful.

The WRM89 is aimed at home users, all quite plastic-y but does what I need. Haven't looked at others. We've had previous Oregon ones and the one that a problem had a colour screen that had a permanent LED backlight ... the LED died so couldn't see the still working screen. Ones that use grey LCDs and don't need a light and have lasted ... it's why I got the WMR89 to replace it.

I found Docker container for WeeWX
I need to prepare project for several weather stations connected via GPRS/UICC secured band (AES) into central DB and WeeWX seems to be great deal.
@fredbert - do you have an experience with such container (or similar)?

I haven't used weewx in Docker as I needed direct USB connectivity and my weather station is a bit finicky. Having found a way to get it connected to Raspberry Pi I have been happy with keeping it like this ... the Pi can be easily moved with the weather station's main unit, unlike moving my NAS.

The main weewx database I have is in Sqlite3 and this is what gets updated with the archive logs from the station. Not sure how it goes about supporting multiple stations, or if that is possible. But it's possible to extract data from the database and use this for other purposes ... e.g. my own reports formatted how I want them.

I have open a discussion with some guys who can help me to deliver data to me from multiple stations (940 sites), then extract and mining is perfect for me.
