What are you running in Docker?

Apologies in advance if this has already been mentioned. I stumbled across a cool tool called 'Snapdrop'. It is literally airdrop but over your own internal network and great for moving single files between different operating systems.
Snapdrop is absolutely amazing. I used

Wish there was really good universal clipboard manager as good as snapdrop. My main use case is to copy paste between my Android phone and a macbook. Just migrated to a Pixel from an iOS device and I miss the universal clipboard between the iOS and MacOS

With Homebridge V2.0 now available as a native package on top of all the other changes I am now in the unexpected position of running absolutely nothing in Docker. In fact, Docker isn't even running!

I also took a mad plunge and installed DSM7 on my main NAS. Not a seamless process and a few things got messed-up.

Hi Rusty,
I do envy you your Docker setup, I lately tried to add Bitwarden which should in theory work with their Apple app but I was unable to get it to work :( I can make it run to be accessible from LAN over https but with the app....no. How is yours setup? I am bad with proxy settings, I do also have PieHole, but it is not fully setup either just because I cannot configure the ports and such.

Contact me in private and we can discuss it a bit and hopefully get you going.

Is it possible to run the official self hosted version of Bitwarden in a synology docker, Or just Vaultwarden?
Can be done. Afaik they have an installer script that needs to be used for the installation from the command line (=ssh shell)

Just be aware that the setup will be more complicated and it will consume arround 20-40 times the ressouces that vaultwarden requires.

Maybe I have misunderstood, but the question posted involved whether the official Bitwarden host could be run as a docker container, not a native install. As far as I know, Bitwarden has not released a docker compliant image for self-hosting.

What issues concern you about Vaultwarden?

uhm.. that actual is how the official Bitwarden is installed. They have an installer script that boostraps the container zoo, creats a reverse proxy if wanted and sets up the database :D see: Install and Deploy - Linux | Bitwarden Help & Support (in this case on-prem != base-metal)

Vaultwarden implements the Bitwarden api - but uses a much more efficient programming language and database solution doing it. The api it implements is a contract between clients and backends.

When breaking changes are planned, they would need to allign the release of all clients and force everyone running it on-prem to update at the same time to maintain compatibility..... quite unlickely (but ofc not impossible).

Thus said: do you know something we all don't?

Thank you for this explanation.

I don’t.

Back in the day, when I saw BW official and its setup, I thought to myself, there has to be a fork that is not less complex then this. Luckly, VW team are doing it the correct way, so in the past 2y I have had 0 problems on any official app when it comes to connecting to the self-hosted server side. Let's hope it stays that way.
