I have to come clean and admit that what triggered this post is the hope that @Shadow might answer :)

Ever since we were on the good old forum, I’ve often wondered about Shadow’s avatar. I just can’t figure it out. Being an avid photographer, I’m curious.
My last thoughts is that it’s a picture of a shiny reflective metal dome or ball, in a dim lit room, making everything reflected look dark, small and distorted. I’m sure I’m wrong :D

I’ll start with mine, to show my “usual” good intentions 😇
It’s part of a 3D picture I shot in a museum about civilizations. I like shooting architecture, landscape, abstracts and night photography. For the record, I don’t approve of street photography (but who am I to disagree).
Here’s the full picture (albeit highly reduced in size).

Don't like avatars (for me) as they can be like using a signature, but I decided I was being a misery here what with in being so friendly and all. Filled with all my creative abilities I felt it best to use something that had some.

I used this Get Peanutized | ON BLU-RAY™, DVD & DIGITAL HD and made a Snoopy of me :) Used Acorn on Mac to clip out a square image.

The alternative was using this Pocoyize

Wow. Sonic’s Shadow!
I’ve always thought of darkness “shadow”. The photographer in me over analyzing :)
On the small avatar I can’t make Shadow’s face and those hands appear to me like a reflection of some ornaments. Although I took a screenshot and enlarged it.

I thought of other things that might be shot with an extra-wide or a fish-eye lens too. But never Sonic’s shadow.

This shows that when you’re a hammer everything looks like a nail.

I really thank you for answering. I’ll sleep better tonight :)

Yeah I know Shadow 😁

Mine is obviously a selfie dated back to the good old 8bit days. Snapshot taken from a photo frame attached to the fridge of my mom’s home.

Think I was playing Sid Meier’s Pirates on my Commodore 128.

That’s so sweet. Moms are the best :)

We had an Atari. The Commodore was much more advanced :)

Best told by Aaron Li...

"In 1996 Linus Torvalds, the Finnish creator of the Open Source operating system Linux, visited the National Zoo and Aquarium with members of the Canberra Linux Users Group, and was captivated by one of the Zoo's little Penguins. Legend has it that Linus was infected with a mythical disease called Penguinitis. Penguinitis makes you stay awake at night thinking about Penguins and feeling great love towards them. Not long after this event the Open Source Software community decided they needed a logo for Linux. They were looking for something fun and after Linus mentioned his fondness of penguins, a slightly overweighted penguin sitting down after having a great meal seemed to fit the bill perfectly. Hence, Tux the penguin was created and now when people think of Linux they think of Tux."

Mine is sheer laziness :p
Surely it's the result of extensive (and expensive) public consultation and represents the core values and philosophy behind the brand shown in a bold, modern design that captures the essence of @tb123 ?
