I agree with you but for me most of that is not option. Most services are not supported and those that are, cost a lot. Considering that NAS functionality is not primarily media I see no reason not to use it to have that content locally. The main problem is lack of content in my country that I wanna watch.as Rusty wrote, definitely in NAS.
But I am still surprised or curious, why people need download an entertainment content and use it by Plex or similar solution in 2019.
Those days when yearly subscription fee for Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Go, Spotify is same as xTB disc space and NAS TCO (include investment to NAS), available anytime and anywhere. Specially when your NAS has 5Mbps upload in real (for a remote access). In many cases people watch the source through WiFi LAN (undervaluated often) because their WiFi router is placed over corner and their 5GHz WiFi with 80Hz has too many interferences, finaly the speed of the data is under 20Mbps and less (4k content needs >30, in many cases >60 Mbps).
Yes, agree:
Pls, don’t take it as hate, it is not my manner. But think about, if you really need the Plex and what is the added value - for few minutes from your life.
- there are limitations for DTS, HDR content streamed from internet source. Specially for 4k HDR10 you need +50Mbps real (not just nominal) internet speed (continuously).
- but as Pareto principle can learn us, 80% of users will never perceive a difference between DTS and DD, even DPL. Particularly when they use lowend HDMI cable (1.4) to their fantastic homecinema system with ARC support (far away from eARC spec). Finaly, there is the last mile = a display Hw/Sw, that can stop their expectations (or placebo effect will satisfy their mind).
I was same audiophile and moviephile from an excellence point of view. But I found better excellence in my life, then I happy now. Even with Spotify in my car.
DS not working for you?If this package would work (it doesn't), then I think it's best to run on the NAS.
