Add smaller hard drives?

I am setting up a DS1621+ with 4 16TB Ironwolf hard drives. I have 2 8TB Ironwolves from a previous NAS, DS220+. Is it Possible to add the smaller drives (8TB) to the DS1621+ that has the larger drives (16TB)? IF not, can I connect the DS220+ with the 2 8TB drives to the DS1621+ via the LAN2 ports and make use of the DS220+ also?

It is possible to add them, but only using the two empty bays, setup as different storage pool+volume.
In SHR, with data protection this adds 8TB, not the best use of this 2x8, basically the same as setting them up on the DS220+.
Uning the DS220+: Connecting the two directly with a cable is not useful, but otherwise connected to you lan, using a switch is possible.

Presuming SHR ... You can create a new (second) pool with the smaller drives, and a second volume.

Well... not like a DX... But you can mount the DS220+ shared folders (via File Station) onto the DS1621+.

Thanks Telos. The four 16TB drives are RAID 10 which I plan to switch to SHR and use only for Movies and TV Shows. I'd like to use the 2 8TB drives for Music and Pictures. I currently use the 4 16TBs to play through Plex on to our TVs. I'd like to be able to do the same with the 2 8TB drives for Music and Pictures. I know nothing about having two pools on one server and how we would use or access the different pools. We use Plex as our "streaming" software. Do you know if I set up a second Storage Pool will Plex automatically see it or will we have to "switch" between the two pools?

Plex can see both volumes (nothing is "automatic", you have to show Plex where your movies, tvshows, etc., reside). But wait...

If you are going to do that, you can create a single pool with 4x16 + 2x8 and then create a single volume (58.2 TB). Separate Music, Pictures, etc., by folder.
