Are my duplicated pictures caused my Synology Drive?

On my iPhone I have Synology Photos Mobile. I take a snap it ends up on my server and I can see them in Synolgy Photos via a browser and also on my iPad. All good, works fine, better than Apple Photos for me.

But I seem to get a lot of duplicates. Is this because I also have Synology Drive on my iPhone and its backing up my snaps?

I'll turn off Drive's photo backup, but maybe there's something else I'm not aware of? Like why? Why would I want Photos and Drive to copy my snaps?

are you shooting motion photos? HEIC?

Good point, with Live Photos you will see a still shot followed by the video file of the Live Photo. Additionally, is photo bursts turn on?

From what I gathered from first post I was reading it as your doing some sort of auto upload/backup in synology photo app and then doing some sort of same with the Drive app. If you have photo backup turned on for both application I would think this is what is causing the duplicates in this case.

How do these snaps get into synology photos? Manual upload? Automatic backup from within synology Photos app on the iPhone?
Just taking pictures on the iPhone camera app. When Synology Photos is running they get imported. Never (almost!) do manual upload.

Never! But I did once so have the correct plugin to render HIEC.
Additionally, is photo bursts turn on?
Not unless by accident but no is the simple answer.

Yes, I think this is what's been happening.
you could also be syncing icloud photo AND Synology Photo/DSfile/SynologyDrive ( all of these will perform photo backup if set and will duplicate )
Yes, not the way to do it

So thanks everyone, I haven't seen any duplicates now I've disable Drive's photo backup. I can see why that exists, shame I didn't notice - or maybe the apps could talk to each other and let me know!

@DeltaGolf hey I know this thread mentioned synology drive, but you were also using synology photos and I believe you untimely ended up turning off backup of drive, so then the below may apply to you.

Take a look at this thread, apparently with the new mobile app update for photos there could be duplicated photos and they’re already aware about it.

By what others were saying issue happens when photos are uploaded to personal space and then moved to shared space as an example. I haven’t had a chance to mess with it to see what’s happening, but I typically will upload a bunch of photos manually then keep it on my phone. Now that I turned on mobile backup I’m sure (although not verified yet but I can see how it’s happening) those photos may appear as a duplicate from being in the backup folder and wherever I manually uploaded them too.

Don't mix path of Photo and Drive.

Standard path :

Photo /home/Photos
Drive /home/Drive

If have pictures in Drive, migrate to Photo and all will looks ok.
