Backup drive

Hey guys. Recently I upgraded on e of the 2 4tb drives to 16tb. Am wondering if I can put the 4tb in a Docking station and plug into my DS920+ usb port to use it for hyper backup. I saw this one at Amazon and wonder if it's ok or would you suggest a different one. TIA

Yes you can. I’m using a StarTech with a SATA port to plug into the SATA expansion of this particular DS (since the port is not utilized). But of course you can use a USB 3 dock. The one you linked should work fine.

Any advantage of SATA over USB on a DS920? Am thinking SATA would be faster?

To my knowledge, it’s about the same. It just saves a USB port, if you need it. Unlikely, since Synology screwed us up with the new ports limitation in DSM 7
If the price difference is not big, get one with all the options, otherwise USB 3 is good enough. I’m using this with a 216+II that has one USB 3 port.
