Hi,
I have a DS220+ with extra 16GB of RAM.
I am planning to create a no-GUI Debian VM and run K3s on it. It will also act as a Proxmox cluster voter (with qdevice).
(I have two other servers that also run Proxmox and VM with K3s on it)
I will try to limit workload of the NAS; the other servers will do most of the heavy lifting.

My questions:
  1. Can I run containers inside a VM? Will there be significant performance degradation?
  2. How do I create a scheduled backup task of this VM? (preferably using native packages and no payment required)

Solution
Can I run containers inside a VM? Will there be significant performance degradation?
You can yes but the performance will depend on how well the VM is running ofc. With that CPU I would reserve my expectations.

How do I create a scheduled backup task of this VM? (preferably using native packages and no payment required)
VMM has built-in protection using snapshots (local ones). Remote snaps (replication) is a paid option for a secondary unit.

Backup as such (apart from snaps), is not an option, other than exporting the VM and then backing it up (not an automated process).

Thanks for your reply.

I am looking at the Active Backup for Business package, it supports Debian and may suit my need
