Barnyard2 process and disk activity

I am experiencing constant disk access and am not sure how to figure out what process is causing this.
The process that seems to be taking the most CPU is called Barnyard2. I can't seem to find out what this does.
Any insights would be much appreciated.

A quick search for “Barnyard2 process” shows:

Did you install this intrusion detection software?

Thank you so much for that. I installed the Intrusion Prevention package from synology. I stopped it and that removed Barnyard2 from the list and reduced CPU use by quite a bit. I guess the question is do I need intrusion prevention...
