I want to create short vids and post them to my NAS DS220+. Then share their URLs in emails, texts, or social media.

URL recipients might be strangers or they may be in my Contacts already.

If this vid sharing approach is possible under DSM7 which package(s) do I need to rely upon to implement it? Thanks, John

Well, in that case, nothing other than Synology Photos (in DSM7) will have that option. You will have to resolve to a Docker solution and run some alternative that has that feature.

If you do decide to run with Synology Photos, this is what it will look like. You can make custom "virtual albums" that will allow you to add new videos on the fly, and share those albums with the outside world. The end user will simply click and "stream" the content from your NAS. You can add descriptive text to the items as well as tag them.

Albums can be protected (optional) with a password, or open to the public on a link that you will send out.

Here is a quick example how it looks like (you can change the main album cover to any video in the list...
So do you want a visual presentation like on YT and streaming, or just a link that will offer them a download option?

If you just want to make public links that anyone can download, you can use the Drive platform on your NAS, host the files there, and make public links towards folders, or specific files. You can add passwords to it, and expiration dates (all optional) if you want/need to.

Hi Rusty, thanks for the clarifying question.

I’d rather offer folks “a visual presentation like on YT and streaming”… versus having them download vids.

Ya, I’d like to offer the ‘YouTube-like’ experience.
