Hey, I bought a Synology NAS (DS218play) a few days back. I've been trying to log into my Synology account inside the DSM and it won't let me. When I log into Synology in my browser, and then try to add my device with the serial number, it won't let me. I tried to create a support ticket, but since I can't register the device, that's not possible either.

I'm somewhat tech-savvy and it isn't that big of a deal to use without the account, just thought it'd be nice to have quickconnect available, instead of switching networks constantly.

When I go to the Synology Account tab inside of the DSM, it tells me it's busy or doesn't have an internet connection. It's been 2 days, so it definitely isn't busy still. And I've set up a WebDAV server which is fully remotely accessible and usable, so it isn't an internet issue either. I've tried resetting and all the obvious things. but feel free to list them still incase I forgot any I guess.

I logged into my Synology account in my browser, and I cannot register my device. I know I have the correct serial number (inside info center), and it can't register it.

It was purchased brand new, only 2 days ago, has fully compatible drives and is properly connected to the internet. As for other setup: it has 2x 1TB drives, running in Synology's own SHR (I believe that was the acronym, the hybrid raid thing).

The attached screenshot is of the error I get in the Synology Account tab inside the DMS. Additionally, if I actually click ok and then try to log in, it says something along the lines of "Logging in, please wait" and then ofcourse doesn't log in. Any ideas?

(Also, feel free to refer me to a better forum to ask this in. All the other forums seemed more like discussions places than just tech support questions lol)

Once you confirm that you can browse direct to the Synology account's site it then could be a browser issue. I haven't seen this for a while but there have been issues before where the browser blocks one page opening another due to it detecting a cross-site 'issue' (e.g. browsed to domain of your NAS and that tried to open views to synology.com).

In Mac Safari this was due to enabled 'Cross-Origin Restrictions' in Develop menu. Prior to that it was due to some Preference related to cross-site or shared cookies being enabled. Don't know about other web browsers but I think they do similar.

If all else fails I would open a ticket with Synology Support as they should be able to resolve this.

Got a response from Synology support, the .xz file is a Linux compressed format. Use 7zip to uncompress it.

Not via GUI, but you could load up via SSH and check /var/log/messages file, for more details.
