Hi,

I have an existing NAS 1517+, with Mac OS work, and its been a treat, used for approx 3 years from home.
I now am getting a a small office space and will ideally have one or more staff working from out there.
Am wanting to have a setup such that the office will have there own Synology NAS, and both myself and staff on the office space can work on the same files.
In a way such that the files sync across both, and when someone at either location is working on a specific file, if anyone at either location tries to access that file it either denies them or warns them that its in use.
I tried to read up on how this could be done but have got more and more confused =( ... from team shares, sync apps, drive server, various file systems (smb / afp / webdav).
Literally got a migraine o_O
Would be hugely grateful for any guidance / advice as to what I should be looking at using for this kind of thing ?
🙏

This article seems to imply that two people can be editing a document at the same time when using Synology Office (via Drive). It's not something I do.

Suggest you try this out on you home NAS with two different user accounts editing a test document.

Hope you're feeling better now. I suffer with migraines too: no idea what causes them but they can last for days even with meds.

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully someone with more experience of running shared services in an office environment will be able to help.

Yep I get them often but especially when over doing things. I do suffer from anxiety issues so this only compounds things. I try and ride it through and help with more fluids, rest and meditation :)

On the files aspects, it wont be Office based files but other specialist apps file types. Also I want to keep it simple and avoid them being able to be edited by more than one person at a time. So basically if anyone opens a file from either NAS, then anyone who attempts to open that file (regardless of from which NAS), it warns or blocks them outright. Any ideas what of the apps / settings / features are right for this ?

it is a simple answer:
NO WAY
to collaborate over single file with more than single user in real time.

Unless the specific logic of the 3rd party platform can do it independently, which uses Syno storage as a "stupid" storage point, resp. as a "handy" netwotk collaboration tool based on containerized environment which will run the main collaboration platform.
