Dear SynoForum.com members,

We have implemented a new detection system, mainly to prevent spammers from registering.

Commercial VPN, Proxy, Tor and Relay access is no longer allowed on the forum.

Thank you for your understanding!

VPN Server / VPN [Plus] Server back home will probably work. The thing to do is test your connectivity methods. I have done it back to home using VPN Plus and it worked.
Same. WG works just fine and its not triggered at all.

I have done it back to home
Not using "home" VPN. Already I've lost access on one device, and when this one's cookie vanishes, I'm history.

I figured something was up, as for the past few days I get this "checking" page before the forum loads. Well... it's been a nice ride while it lasted. Seems existing accounts are not "grandfathered".

Before we lose the ability to say so, I want to say thanks for all of your positive contributions to this site. No way to setup WG on your vpn? Anyway, I'm not liking the new policy at all.

Maybe Jan will give me access to his home VPN server for some virtual Oatmeal Stout?

As I'm sure everyone is aware this has nothing to do with any particular individual on the forum, I will just say it nonetheless. This feature has been implemented for the benefit of all visitors of the forum, as well as better control and filtering of incoming spammers and trash topics.

Just as we evaluate individual threads and posts of existing users, we are extra careful not to spoil the forum with any unwanted content of any kind be it spam, fake links, bots, etc.

While we were aware that this might rub some the wrong way, the mechanism is here for the good of the majority. We are sorry that we might lose some long-term members that have contributed to the content of the forum, but as this is not a forced layoff, but rather a personal choice, we can't say anything else apart from thank you and we do hope you will reconsider.

If not, as always, there are plenty of alternatives out there.

There is not much more to say here. Rusty has already summarised. We see spammers and bots every day, and most of them use VPN services. Add to that the fact that most of them also use AI to write their texts, which makes them even harder to detect.

I understand the reasoning, but I still don't like it. I think more people should be using vpns and encryption everywhere and at all times, not less. That's just me.

I appreciate all the hard work that goes into moderating and taking care of a forum, I ran a bbs in a previous life.

I simply wanted to tell a guy that I believe won't be able to be here much longer that I appreciate him. And that goes for anyone else that might be negatively affected by this change, too. Thanks.

my Oatmeal Stout is already spoken for..

"Badges? We don't need no Stinking Badges!" This ruling is for the best...
and: The Synology Devices here are all hidden, & with no W7 displays.... so that pix is way wrong

But thanks for your concern!🤷🏼‍♂️

Isn't this about the exit IP
Exactly. When you are out and about, vpn back home and you will be inside your tunnel, and not a commercial one. But I get the need for a commercial one as well. I'm sure you will find a way considering your level of love for the forum ;) 🍪

I think the moderators might reduce panic by making clear (if I have this right) that "COMMERCIAL VPN, Proxy, Tor and Relay access is no longer allowed on the forum." (I'm connected right now through an OpenVPN server running on my RS819 sitting in a colocation center.)
