any ideas why the resource monitor widget says CPU usage is 31%, yet the task manager has it under 10% ?

yep, pretty much sits constant at that (or around that).
the NAS is essentially sitting idle at the moment (other than me using quickconnect to log on and check the CPU) and the CPU is sitting at 25%

scrubbing says "never performed yet"

the default page on the resource monitor shows the same CPU usage as the widget. currently 31% with the NAS doing nothing other than me being connected to DSM. (RAM is 18% usage)

going to task manager and sorting the tasks by CPU usages, it doesn't come close to 25%.

plex server is currently installed, but not configured yet (so not being used).
sabnzbd & transmission installed from community package centre (both sitting idle)
vpn server installed (enabled but nothing connected)
VMM installed - 2 VMs configured - both powered off
Docker with 2 images running (unifi controller & mkvtoolnix)
Web station installed - no sites currently configured yet

is there no way to see what background tasks are running?

hmm... looks like something to do with Mono or Radarr?
those were installed previously but both since un-installed.

i will be putting Radarr back on at some point, but via Docker (previous installation was via a community package).

radarr and sonarr aren't currently installed, (mono isn't either).
but it seems there is a rogue task still running in the background?

yeah that seems to have fixed it
CPU back down to negligable when idling
RAM still at 16% but i would say that's about normal-ish.

i might stick an extra 8GB in it at some point to take it up to 16GB (it's a DS1019+), but not a priority.

Docker it is then for Radarr and Sonarr (and Jackett).

it's better run non-Syno packages in Docker (security, upgrade/roll-back)
