Control Panel > Shared Folders.

Then edit the settings of a folder you want to move and select the target to be the new volume. That is one way. Another is to open up File Station, and use a simple copy-paste option. Third option would be to use HyperBackup package and make a copy of data from one volume to the next. In case you want to use HB, be sure to use the single file copy option, so that you don't end up with a "database-like" format of your data.
i want to keep the movies in both volumes just like back is that possible or will moving the folder just move from one volume to the other ?

If is possible but not with a move option. Then just copy it using other 2 methods. Also, having a "backup" on the same device, is risky as that is not really a backup.

would it be ok too remove storage pool 2 then add it to storage pool 1 as a hot spare?
i tried that option but it said not raid support wouldn't let me do it.
can i add the spare drive to storage pool 1 ?

can i add the spare drive to storage pool 1
Yes, you can but with the following criteria:
  • The RAID type of the storage pool must support drive fault tolerance (i.e., RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10, RAID F1, and SHR comprising at least two drives).
  • The capacity of the hot spare drive must be equal to or larger than the capacity of the smallest drive in a RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10, or RAID F1 storage pool.
  • The capacity of the hot spare drive must be larger than or equal to the capacity of the largest drive in an SHR storage pool.

Use the location editing function in the shared folders control panel. By doing so all access rights are preserved as well as links to any packages that are mapped to your media. Only use File Station to relocate individual files, as necessary.

What I have done is removed the second storage pool and added that spare drive to storage pool 1 it’s currently doing so with two hours left. I think I’m right I go to edit on top right hand side then increase the volume size ? I’m hoping it doesn’t erase everything

i have added the spare drive to storage pool 1. but the option to increase the volume is greyed out any ideas?the system notifiedation says i have success added to the storage pool i have three green lights on the nas but on dsm drive information only showing two drives.

Perhaps I got lost in this thread... but IIRC, you added a second drive to a SHR pool that had no drive redundancy... resulting in a volume that now has redundancy... i.e., your drives are mirrored, and there is no unused pool capacity available to expand your volume.

Otherwise, please post Storage Manager screenshots of your pool and volume.

As I said... there are 2 drives mirrored. There is no 3rd drive. Either it is not seated, it is dead, or your NAS slot backplane is dead.

ok thanks for the information.

You can't add smaller drives to an SHR volume.
so basically i have two 3tb drives with the same files on ? is there a way of checking.

had a quick read still unsure on what redundant storage ive created though it did take over 6 hours to add the drive. the drive has always been in the gas from the start so im not sure what i had before.
