DSM 7.0 Diskstation will not let me expand my Volume

I have a DS920+ and my storage pool is 21.8 TB and my volume is 15.7 TB. I go to settings but I don't see where I can expand the volume. I will attach some screenshots.

Thanks in advance.

It has been 3 or 4 days since the repair took place. I also ran the data scrubbing. Moved from 2-8TB and 2-3TB drives to 4-8TB drives. Replaced the 3TB drives via hot swap. When I replaced the first 3TB with a 8TB it adjusted itself right away to the 15.7TB volume but it has not increased since I replaced the second 3TB drive with a 8TB.

Was this volume migrated from another NAS? If so... which model?

How were the 2x8TB plus 2x3TB drives configured before you started to replace the smaller ones?

What do you mean by "Hot Swap"? You should have removed one drive, allow the system to initialise and reconfigure with three 8TB plus 1 3TB, then replace the last 3TB drive.

Do you have a back=up of your data?

My configuration is SHR with 1 drive fault tolerance. I had two 8's and two 3's. I powered off my NAS and removed a 3 and replace with a 8. Powered the NAS back on and then went to the hot swap tab and added the new 8 to the storage pool and it began repairing the volume. Once the volume was repaired and healthy I powered down again and did the same procedure for the last 3TB drive.

I do not have a backup. My data is fine. The problem that I have is my volume size did not increase with the last swap out of the 3TB to the 8TB. From what I understand is the volume size is supposed to increase automatically and it did not and I do not see where I can manually increase the size of the volume.

Many people will say that if you do not have a backup your data is certainly not "fine". A NAS is not a backup, especially when you start re-configuring the disks.

I have not done any expansion of drives with DSM 7, but I did increase drive sizes under DSM6.2 and it was pretty straightforward.

Your Storage Pool says it has increased but Volume 1 has not. I suspect it has something to do with the odd sizes of disc you originally had. On the Storage Pool if you select the "Create" Option does it offer you the chance to create a new Volume on the un-used part of the drives?

It looks like I need to do the following. Backup my data, make a new storage pool and a new volume that is bigger than the 16TB. Then restore my data to the new larger storage pool and volume.

Migrating data to a larger volume to maximize the storage capacity

If you need a volume that is larger than 16 TB, you may want to migrate your data to a Synology NAS that has a maximum single volume size of 108 TB or 200 TB. Please note the following information:

The maximum single volume size is determined when the volume is created. Therefore, migrating your drives from a Synology NAS supporting 16 TB to another Synology NAS supporting 108 TB does not mean the maximum single volume size will expand from 16 TB to 108 TB. Instead, only the new volumes created in the same storage pool can support up to 108 TB.

We recommend using Hyper Backup to back up your data to a remote destination before you migrate your data.

I’m afraid that seems to be the only option now. I expended my DS415+ from 4x4TB to 4x8TB and that was fine, though I gave up on that as the 8TB drives were too noisy!

This is an old thread I know, but am I right in saying that in this case with a hot spare, if you are using 4 drives total (3 active and 1 hot spare) with SHR, only three drives will be contributing to the pool therefore total space available is 16TB. And so what this user was seeing was entirely correct...?

His config as stated above: “My configuration is SHR with 1 drive fault tolerance.” So not a “hot spare”.
