Hi there. I arrived here trying to find a way of installing PostGre or PostGIS, Dbeaver and GeoServer as Docker containers, but I have not been able to do so properly, tons of mistakes, loops that made me even to reset NAS to default password and reset all network config.
Up to now, I have been able to install Dbeaver as container, but have not WAN access, only LAN. I also installed PostGre, since I do not want to ssh and use DSM's preinstalled one.
GeoServer and all these containers are well documented in GITHUB and give you docker compose instructions, but for an experienced user.
I want to build a tiny but useful map server of the Caves we explore in my region.
Does anyone want to drop me a line?
Kind regards,
Frank

Use this guide to set up your Docker / Portainer and the relevant file permissions for each of your containers. Then use Portainer for all your docker / container work, this will save you messing up your Synology packages, and minimise the amount of time you need to SSH into it.

Once this is set up, just download the images you want from docker hub and create new containers without affecting your NAS.

Hi there and thanks for your reply. I already did so, and have installed but without success. Also Watchtower to update containers and several already running as Dbeaver, but I have no idea on how to make it work with GeoServer, GeoNetwork, Qgis server and PostGIS. Also would like to get knowledge on how to build it using custom ports, not only the default ones (but may use them if mandatory).
I do not know whether it should have been post in another section of the forum, please feel free to transfer or move it there, I am a Newby.
Kind regards,
Frank

Hi Frank, I've had a look at some of these applications in Docker Hub and Github, and they are very complex applications for new Docker users.

If you followed the Docker / Portainer guide I gave you, you'll have a very good setup to start deploying Docker images, but your applications will need very detailed configuration to get them working together... you may not find someone in this forum who specialises in these applications.

If you can't get any assistance, I would check the images / communities in Docker Hub / Github and see if any of them have Discord channels, so you can deploy their apps and ask questions in their Discord.

I can also see there are some specialist subgroups in Reddit who may be able to assist, maybe find out what tools they are using / recommend, then you have some groups you can join and provide the specialist geo support.

I hope you get it up and running, I'm in some 4WD clubs and it looks like a great project.

P.S. Where still here for your Synology / Docker help :P

The 1621+ would be a logical replacement, I chose the DS1522+ as it is slightly newer. Answers: A)...
