Hi,
I'm having a strange problem with my Synology DS1621xs+ Virtual Machine:

I want to install a Win11 VM, so I downloaded the correct Win11 ISO, I created a new VM with UEFI bios, 4GB RAM, 4CPU and 128GB HD and selected the Win11 ISO.

However, after starting the VM and arriving at the "press any key to boot from DVD", after pressing a key I get to the blank screen showing the "Tiano Core Oper Platform Firmware" (see Screenshot) and I do not get any Windows wizard to start (again, my problem is not about the windows 11 installation itself, with all the regedit tricks and more, but just getting the iso itself to start!).

Has anyone any suggestione about this issue?

Thank you very much in advance!
Have a nice day,
Mattia

Unless you use the new updated bypass of unsupported hardware, then Installing Windows 11 won't work.

What do you mean exactly?

I've seen different post with regedit hacks, that however do not apply here, since it doesn't even boot, and another one saying to delete a file from the iso, that however only works on an already installed Windows 10: what is the "bypass" you're referring to?

Thanks!

Have you tried booting a Windows 10 ISO? If that works, then maybe the route would be installing 10, then upgrading to 11 using the bypass not supported hardware. If the Windows 10 ISO doesn't boot, then maybe we need to look into the settings you are using to create the VM.

Windows 10 boots and installs correctly (both with BIOS-LEGACY or UEFI), while Windows 11 not.

I'll try to update Windows 10 then, even if the CPU is said to be unsupported, and after a couple of attempt with the usual tricks, I'm still having problems (the regedit ones do not work at all, while using an app like the classic flyby11 asks for a reboot that then stucks the machine permanently). I must however make some other attempts... Thanks!

What version of DSM are you using? Note that older versions of DSM and virtual machine manager don't have the support for Windows 11.

Everything on the NAS is updated to the latest available version at the moment, in particular: "DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 1" and "Virtual Machine Manager 2.7.0-12229".

I think there is something specific to version 24H2 that is incompatible with Synology. I downloaded the latest Win 11 ISO (24H2) and ran into the same problem; can't get past the TianoCore screen. So I tried 23H2. That installed just fine. But when I tried to upgrade through Windows Updates to 24H2, it gets stuck again on that screen after reboot. Tried mounting 24H2 to the CD drive of the running 23H2 and upgrading that way. Same thing.

I was going to try to install using Legacy BIOS and the registry hack using this video but he mentions at the 1:20 mark that 24H2 does work. 23H2 is supported until November I think so I'm just going to stay on that version.
