Hi, this seems to be an exact duplicate this thread but the outcome or to resolved was never posted (and I can't post to that thread anymore).
  • Band new Seagate exos x16 16TB installed in slot #2 = synology not detected (light not on by the drive indicator)
  • Swapped existing - working SATA to slot #2, and that new one to slot #1 = same issue - this time slot #1 not detected
Anything else I could try?

Next day test: I plugged the HDD via a sata usb adapter and... It works. So why can't I use the built in bay???
 
Hmm... I did further tests and on a Wondows PC, the drive doesn't initialize. And initializing fails "because of hardware". It might just very well be a defective 300eur drive...

The other obvious point here is that the disk did not fit in the backplane...physically different connectors.
