If anyone is interested…

I grabbed a 4 GB memory upgrade for the DS220+ (for a total of 6 GB).

Crucial 4 GB Single DDR4-2666 SODIMM 1.2V CL19 (CT4G4SFS8266)
For about $18

Overall, the system feels noticeably more responsive (I’m running a few Docker containers, Emby and installed vDSM).

The server info (Control Panel > Info Center) now shows:

Running Synology assistant’s memory test ended after almost three hours with no complaints.
Checking the log, revels the following… I don’t know why three times. Triple assurance I guess 😁

Hi! I´ve just updated my DS220+ to DSM7 RC and have been waiting ages for a RC. I have like a billion photos and videos and would really like to use Synology Photos with face recognition. Are you satisfied with your Crucial 4 GB Single DDR4-2666? Synology prefered their own version.

16GB here... Most used in cache (qbittorrent loves it for downloads)
If I may ask, which 16GB memory module did you use? Would you mind sharing that with us.

I ask this because I intend to replace my DS916+. The only thing I have in doubt is between the DS220+ and the DS920+.
I have two options for myself in terms of configuration, which are;

Option 1
DS220+ (Will be my main NAS also for Docker and VMs)
1X 1TB SSD
1X 4TB HD
1X 16GB extra memory

DS 916+ (for Docker and VM testing and as Backup NAS)
2x 2TB HD
8GB Memory
(This is currently my configuration of the DS916+)

Option 2
DS 920+ (becomes main NAS)
1x 1TB SSD
2X 4TB HD
1X 16GB Extra memory

DS 916+ (becomes test NAS and backup)
2x 2TB HD
8GB memory

A disadvantage of option 2 is not only that it is more expensive, but also that I have 2x 4 Bays. And I am currently only using 2Bays of the DS916+. That leaves 3 Bays unused.

Disadvantage of option 1 is that I don't have raid anymore for my data as main NAS.

What do you guys think?

What is the maximum amount of memory you can put in the DS220+? Does anyone know?
You can put in as much as you can fit, BUT the Celeron J4025 can only address 8GB max.
Folks joyfully crowing about more will not see any difference.
My 920+ generally has 40% max utilization of 4GB unless I am running VMs. The latter is why I upgraded to 8GB.
At 8GB the memory is usually at 15%.
For standard file serving, the default config is just fine.

I also installed the 4gb Crucial CT4G4SFS8266 and no problems. System generally more responsive even whilst indexing.

I politely disagree with 16 GB. Linux is not memory hungry like windows, Even heavy loaded debian machines run very well with 4 or 8 GB. you can verify memory use in the resource manager and may find out that most RAM is still available even with 6GB.
My opinion is that 4 to 8 is more than sufficient for typical NAS use. There are better spends for the money.
