Hi Everyone -
I have an old DS414 - which is working perfectly fine for me - just a large repository of files for my backup. Over the years, I have been gradually upgrading the drives, which has worked perfectly. I have always tried to buy exactly the same drives for my 4 drive configuration.
I am currently running 94% and am getting a volume warning.
My configurations currently consistes of 4 WD red drives.
Drive 1 - WD80EFAX-68KNBN0
Drive 2 - WD80EFAX-68KNBN0
Drive 3 - WD40EFRX-68WTON0
Drive 4 - WD40EFRX-68WTON0
Unfortunately I waited too long to upgrade my 2 x WD 4 TB drives to match my existing 2 x WD 8 TB drives.
I purchased two of the newer WD 8 TB drives - but they are WD80EFZZ-68BTXN0.
I have tried contacting Synologu who keeps saying I should have 4 of the same drive make and model, but never really answers my question will 2 x WD80EFAX-68KNBN0 work with 2 x WD80EFZZ-68BTXN0 in my DS414 chassis.
I can't afford to lose this data, but I have been hesitant of starting the rebild process replacing one of my 4 TB drives with one of my new 8 TB drives, as I have been told if it fails, there is no way to go back by replacing my 4 TB drive back into my configuration.
Does anyone have any definitative guidance on my problem?
All 4 drives are running in a single volume/storage pool.
Thanks!
Jason
