Hi,

seems like I can not get to work this following setup:

  • DSL Connection -> DSL Router -> Synology Router (If I use Synology only as AP it works, but this is not how I want to behave the system, a lot of features from Synology will be lost like this)
  • I want the Synology Router to be the Main router, responsible for DHCP , NAT? etc. , but the DSL router must still provide DSL Connection + working LAN ports as other devices are connected there in that room.
What is the proper connection and setup of the Synology + DSL Router? What to connect where? What to enable/disable where? Does default gateway need to be set up?

I made couple of attempts, but always failed.

Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the forum!

What have you tried so far? Try and explain it in detail. Also, what's your ISP in this case if its not a secret?

The way you want to use this would be possible using the DMZ option on your ISP router (if its there). So the idea is to use your routers (ISP) network subnet and choose an address from the same subnet. Lets say for example the subnet for the ISP router is 192.168.8.0/24.

That means that you could take an ip like 192.168.8.25 and configure it as a static IP for either the WAN or LAN1/WAN2 port on the 2600 router. Along that, configure the subnet like 255.255.255.0, gateway will be the ISP router IP address (usually 192.168.8.1), and DNS can be configured to any you want. It can be a public one like 1.1.1.1 or again, your ISP router.

So what will happen is that all traffic will come to your ISP router and will be passed along to your 2600 one. There you will configure all that is needed in terms of firewall, port forward, etc.
