DSM 7.2.1-69057 Issue with 10GbE cards - DS1821+ (others?)

Do not know if this problem affects other models - it did not affect my 1621+.

Uploads to NAS over 10g network from Windows 11 over SMB, VERY SLOW - FAILS after upgrade to DSM 7.2.1-69057

NOTE: The DSM 7.2.1-69057 is still available on the DS1821+ download site

Synology reply:

We understand that after updating to DSM 7.2.1-69057, transferring files from Windows PC to the NAS via the 10GbE card might cause failure or slowness.

We are aware of this issue and the developers are working on a path to resolve it in the future.

We also recommend using the 1Gb port in the meantime.

Such impactful issues generally do not take long to resolve.

the 1GB ports seem ok on my 718+ and 720+... But will certainly update when next version comes out...

I was out of town when it came out, and I saw it had security updates..... When back in town I installed prior to checking all forums... But I seem to have missed the issue!

It's the 10GB NIC, open vswitch enabled, and 7.2.1. So mainly going to hit people running VMM.

Yes, this bug was confirmed by my friend, who has the DS1618+ and 10GBit NIC in it. He does not have VMM installed, but he's not ale to copy files via SMB from his PC to NAS, just one for and then connection broken. So hopefully Synology will patch it as soon as possible...

Simple solution found (via Ames above and my own research):

DSM-NETWORK-MANAGE-Open vSwitch Settings

Disable Open vSwitch temporarily = 10g connection works again

I am still amazed that Synology continues to make an update available that can make a customer's 10g network SMB connection unusable!

This 7.2.1-69057 update is tantamount to having a virus laden download file on the Synology site! It can disable access to a person's/company's network system causing the person/company monetary loss.

Synology seems oblivious, insensitive, and indifferent to this possibility.

I am truly amazed that they didn’t test a system with it installed, seeing that they sell them! It’s not available to my NAS’s, but I’m amazed they don’t make a USB-2.5/5GB Ethernet adapter, seeing that they are so intent on selling hardware…..

Granted, I'm NOT having issues, but when they approach you with a fix, would you kindly give us the 'Head's Up!' ??
