Reply to Rusty, I have a ticket open with them about it because there are lots of users who can't do this :( right now. It is tough for me b/c I had a DS1815+ with DSM 7.x and can't use the DS1821+ b/c DSM 7.x isn't officially supported.

Im sure this model will support DSM 7, there is no question about it, but at what point will it be included in the beta stream, Syno will know best. Hope you get your answer.
 
Did you end up getting a reply to your query? I had DSM7 on a ds1815+ which has now died (I'm guessing its the power bug where the green wire doesn't drop to 1v when the power button is pressed and I'm not confident in repairing it) and while I understand I took a risk installing a BETA and the data is not critical, its 40TB of stuff that, if I don't have to, I'd like to not have to re-obtain.

At the moment I'm thinking I just have to wait for DSM7 for the 1821+ so I can just chuck the disks in the 1821+ and away I go but given the complete silence from Synology who knows how long that is going to be.
 
So... some time in the next 4 months. Very helpful of them :D

Darn it.

That means I'm going to have to find something else to occupy myself during my stuck at home summer holiday (#2). Imagine the happy memories it would've made, a fortnight of trying to recover a botched migration and trying to hammer Photos into the quality experience provided by Moments. Ah, those would've been happy days I could've looked back with fondness in my dotage.
 
I watched one of those Synology webinars a couple of months ago about DSM V7 and asked this very question. The answer at that time was that the DS1821+ would not be part of the V7 Beta program and you will have to wait for the final release.
