From Plex

This announcement is let you know that Synology DSM 7.0, build 41882 (Release Candidate) has introduced breaking changes to everything we’ve accomplished in the Beta.

This announcement is to inform our current status and provide you interim Plex support.
  • Synology changed what is allow in the package file definition.
  • This change breaks all previous DSM 7 packaging.
  • Further regressions (bugs) were introduced in this release by Synology.
Having discussed this issue with our management, we have decided to treat DSM 7.0-41882 as BETA 2 status.

Given Synology has informed of us plans to make additional changes to DSM 7 before final release,

We regret to inform:

  1. We urge everyone to keep their DSM firmware at either DSM 6 or DSM 7-41222.
  2. We are halting active development of DSM 7 packaging until Synology gives us a stable platform to work with
  3. We will hand-build packages when it is necessary, appropriate, and if possible.
We are working with Synology to find a path forward but, at this point, the burden is on them to provide a stable platform for us to work.

We will continue to support all existing installations as well as all new DSM 6 installations without interruption.

AGAIN, we urge you to not upgrade to DSM 7.0 “Release Candidate”.

It probably goes without saying, but I expect that many 3rd-party packages are broken with DSM 7 RC. Caveat Emptor.

Interesting and it was noted in the DSM 7 RC thread that the current Plex installers from Plex.tv were creating errors.

On my DS215j, the DSM 7 test NAS, the previously, manually, installed Plex was still working. But I wanted to see if I could get it updated to the latest version. The downloaded installer failed to work. I then fully uninstalled Plex to see if that helped: it didn't. But I could install the 'official beta' one from DSM 7's Package Center and this is now running. Obviously all settings are lost due to the full uninstall.

Plex working here, I installed it on DSM7 beta and still works on the RC-release.
Quite annoying however that Synology keeps breaking packages for every major DSM-release, I think it has happened every time now, all 3rd party packages breaks.
