DS218+
Hello everyone,

This weekend I acquired a DS218+. I already had an old DS212J. I migrated the disks and tried to install DSM. However it gets stuck right around the 56% mark. I had a spare WD Red laying around, but it shows the same issue. Synology Assistant can find the DS218+. I also followed the recommended update paths from the Synology site. Issues pertains. I learned that once it fails Telnet is being opened, so I logged in and watch the logs while its was trying to install. To be fair O don’t know what’s going wrong. It seems like it’s uploading the .pat file, extracts it, installs, but at some point starts throwing errors around “synoboot mounting”. Can someone maybe help me out to solve this mystery? I added the log below:

Which DSM version did those drives carry? If you return those drives to the older unit, does it boot normally?

Generally speaking this is not a desirable drive migration. If successful the new unit will retain the 16 TB limit of the existing volume. Additionally, you will miss out on the advantages of a btrfs formatted system.

Download dsm for ds218+ to your pc/laptop, connect ds228+ directly to your pc/laptop, use syno assistant to search for nas and try to install. Good luck.

Download dsm for ds218+
DSM upgrades require a specific sequence... For example...

I put the drives back in the DS212J. I did prompt me to install DSM again. So I did and they ate functioning normally in the DS212J. I did mention I popped in a new drive in the DS218+ which gives the same error. In Synology Assistant it shows the DS218+ as migratable now (new drive installed) and the DSM version as 6.2.2-24922 Update 4.

Got it. It seems the nas was not upgraded from the time it was home.

It used the very old version of DSM. So, ds218+ has new drive with dsm 6.2.2. You can install this, right? After this, try to upgrade to newer version until it got 7.2.1. Keep in mind that some version may not be download directly from DSM. In this case, download it manually and update on your own. Happy to see it can be searched and find out its DSM version.

Unfortunately I get the same error also for that DSM version. I beginning to think it has something to do with the USB DOM flash. Maybe it got corrupted somehow.

Since you didn't tell us previously that you are on v6.2.2, the upgrade path is different.

Did you use that?

Unfortunately that is the exact path I tried to follow. Just gets stuck with the same errors as displayed in the log of the OP

If there is no data on new drive. Try to swap 2 drives on da218+ and try to install the dsm gain?
