Just received a warning from my DS920 it's running low on storage on volume 3, didn't think much of it as assumed too many files in the downloads folder, but I've now gone to empty the folder and noticed my downloads is in volume 1, my media is in volume 2, I can't even see what I'm using volume 3 for? So how do I find out?

Storage manager shows all 4 drives, 3 as expected, but volume 3 says it's full now, was 90% this morning, but if I look at shared folders there is none for volume 3 so what's in there?

So I think I've turned ssh on and logged in via my chromebook

I can see volume3 in the list so I've ran this command...

cd volume3

And I get 5 results.

@config_backup
@database
@eaDir
@quarantine
@tmp

If you have logged into SSH with your account, you can now use the default linux CLI commands.

cd /volume 3 - to get inside the volume 3
ls - to list the content of the destination where you are currently.

Screen the output here so we can have a look.

Unlike your screenshot above, it looks empty ... No shared folders present.

Click the down arrow on your storage pool. Is there a repair option, or other instruction?

As far as I'm concerned it's blank, I don't use it as such. I use volume1 for docker, another ironwolf ssd and volume2 which is 2xwd red 8tb drives paired together for main storage... Volume 3 should be empty until I find a use for it. But DSM started warning me this morning volume3 is nearly full, it was about 92% I think, and within an hour it's at 100% full and repeating it's warning every few hours.

But when I look on file manager there's nothing using volume3, even using this SSH I can't find anything on there, so what's filled it up and how do I empty it? Could it be a bad drive reporting full but DSM says it's healthy?

Puzzling. You could pull it and connect it to a PC using a USB dock... Run Seatools diagnostics to test its condition.
