Hi all

I'm new here and I've turned up as I'm in dire need of help. I have a Synology 918+ that started misbehaving yesterday due to the fact that I'd pretty much let the storage space fill up! Here's how I ended up where I am now.... (panicking)

NAS was running very low on storage space and some of my docker services were not working properly. I deleted some files and did a reboot. The NAS came back up and I could log in to DSM fine but my docker services didn't restart. Another reboot and this time the NAS came back up but I couldn't log in as the two step verification kept failing when using the correct code, docker services remained offline. A reboot holding down the power button for 3 seconds resulted in no access to the NAS at all, no network shares, no docker services and no log in page (web browser doesn't find the page). After a hard reboot (holding down the power button until the NAS shuts down) I now have a solid orange status light and a beeping sound every few seconds, green lights on all the drives as usual. Synology Assistant can now see the device (it couldn't previously) and states it is 'ready' however I still can't connect, I can't see any network shares. I've seen that a solid orange status means low storage space.

I can SSH in to the device and set my admin user to have root privileges however when I cd in to volume1 where I believe all of my data is stored and list the directory I don't see any of my data folders, it's essentially empty so I can't free up more space.

All help greatly appreciated.

The issue is probably that you run out of space on the system partition part and it has no way to boot up or due to various shutdowns now you have a corrupted the DSM.

The good news is that your data is 99% all good just don’t make any steps that you might regret.

Contact Syno support and explain the situation and let them guide you.

If you can’t wait, search for how to free space on dsm system partition and see if that will help you.

Well that is a relief thank you Rusty, I've submitted a support ticket with Synology. Like you say, I don't want to do anything I might regret.
