As per this screenshot, I'm prevented from deleting stored backup files. Advice appreciated.

Your screenshot doesn't show you followed the 'Now select a task:' bit. Once you have selected a task the buttons become available... you see the buttons Edit and Version?
If you're trying to free up space from ABB jobs but not ditching ABB completely, you should do that through deleting old backup jobs or changing retention policies in the ABB app itself. It's not a good idea to try to delete ABB folders from File Station.

If you're completely removing ABB, you first need to uninstall ABB. You'll then be able to take ownership of those folders and delete them.

More info in this Synology KB article.

Thank you. Could you give me details on how to:

1) Delete old backup jobs

2) Change retention policies in ABB

Thanks.

One word posts aren't overly constructive and can be misinterpreted as aggressive. Let's not let that happen.

1) Delete old backup jobs

2) Change retention policies in ABB
Open ABB then go to PC/Mac -> Task List:
  • You can access specific Help from this page.
  • Now select a task:
    1. Delete old backups: Click the Version button. From the list you can delete all but the latest version.
    2. Change retention policy: Click the Edit button. Goto the Retention tab and enable then edit the policy.

Thank you. Apologies for being slow, but I cannot find where on this page I can access specific Help. Would you please be more specific?

You could consult the manual ?

To browse or delete backup versions of a backup task:

  1. In Task List, select the desired backup task.
  2. Click Version to browse the backup versions.
  3. If you wish to delete a backup version, please select the version and click the

    icon.

Thank you and got it. I'm not a System Administrator, just an older guy who's learning. If my questions become too tedious, let me know. Tony

Mission accomplished. Thanks. I'm just now learning there are differences in how a server is handled vs. a PC.

My experience is to choose "server" for a PC backup. Many more options.
